E-mail therapy or E-therapy -

What is e-mail therapy or e-therapy ?

E-mail therapy or E-therapy is a relatively new modality in terms of assisting people with issues impacting on a person’s health or well-being. It uses the internet to allow written communication between an individual and a therapist. The focus of E-therapy varies from individual to individual, but it may be used as a stand alone process of working on anger management, enhancing self-esteem, assertiveness in particular and at times may be appropriate for anxiety management. E-therapy has been likened to a way of receiving (written) coaching i.e. helping a person address specific concerns with specific skills. To think of E-therapy as coaching is a helpful way of distinguishing it from the face to face process of therapy with a therapist. However, E-therapy may well be useful medium to augment (face to face) therapy sessions or as an adjunct to therapy sessions.

When is E-therapy not appropriate as a resource ?

• If you are in the midst of a crisis

• If you are feeling suicidal &/or feel you could harm someone else

• If your life is in considerable turmoil

Under the aforementioned circumstances it is most important to meet with a professional health care provider in person.

How does it work ?

1. You send an initial e-mail enquiry highlighting your concern. (Please ensure you provide the e-mail address you wish correspondence sent to).

2. I will reply indicating if I can be of help via. E-therapy and offer an outline of how. I will also indicate if I can not be of help via. this medium. There is NO charge for this initial response.

3. If you then choose to engage in E-therapy, you will be billed per reply to your e-mail at a rate of $15 cdn. per response, which is payable upon receipt via. the PayPal button also contained in your e-therapy response.
